Strategic interaction among hospital innovation

Problemstellung und Zielsetzung

To address the challenges of an increased competitive hospital environment the need for hospital innovation has become undeniable to improve services, quality and reputation. However, the literature does only provide limited empirical evidence to explain the innovation activity of hospitals. Given the close proximity of the hospital market-structure strategic interaction among hospitals might play a crucial role for innovation behavior. Hospital survival and success might be particularly determined by its rate of learning from neighboring hospitals.

Empirische Vorgehensweise

This project analyzes the strategic interaction among hospital innovation. Based on German hospital data distinct measures are constructed to describe the hospital’s innovativeness. A spatial econometric analysis of the adoption behavior of hospital innovations is applied for the period 2008 to 2012.
